Vote for Chuck
In 1986 Lawrence Taylor put up coke-fiend like numbers with 105 tackles, 20 1/2 sacks, and three forced fumbles. 1986 is also the last time a defensive player won the NFL MVP award. A travesty, no doubt. I am here to make a mockery of the system and to bring about an end to the status quo, as it just will not do any longer. Why must we give the award to an offensive player every season? Why give the award to one who is not worthy when there is clearly a defensive guru - spreading his gospel among his 10 disciples - who does deserve the award.
That guru is Charles Woodson. Guru Woodson also happens to be the Packers' best player, and in turn one of the best current players in the NFL. He has already matched most of his numbers from the previous three seasons - 50 tkl, 2 sack, 7 int, 2TD, 4FF - and we still have 5 games to go. Simply put, Woodson has taken it to eleven. When Woodson gets a turnover, it matters. His interceptions have led to 35 points. He will easily pass 10 interceptions this season, something that 2004 Defensive Player of the Year Ed Reed has not done. Something 2007 Defensive Player of the year and also Pro Bowl safety Bob Sanders wishes he could say for himself - he cannot, as he won the trophy that year with only 2 interceptions and 3.5 sacks!!! But he's a little tiny man and he's kinda fast! Therefore, Bob wins.
No one has gotten more than ten interceptions in a season since 1981 - when the great Everson Walls did it for the Brokebacks down in Dallas - and Woodson has a beautiful chance to do it.
Woodson's stats averaged out for the rest of the season would go as follows: 73~ tackles, 3.5~ sacks, 10~ interceptions, 3~touchdowns, 6~forced fumbles. Of course, that's just doing nerd math to get those numbers, so who knows if he can exceed it in five games. Coming up on the schedule is a Monday night game against an int-prone(kinda sorta) QB in Flacco and you just know C-Wood is going to look good for his national audience. And I mean real good. Like me having The Baron buy me a dark grey suit at Good Will to go with my lesser grey and also slightly checkered pants so I can look good at a wedding kind of good. Trust me, it was real good. I'll post pictures if I have to.
If you can win(not anymore but just maybe) the MVP for sacks you should be even more so qualified to win the award for turnovers. Woodson could end the year with 15+ turnovers to his credit and adding on to his leading-to-point-and-total-point total of 35. Sacks are great and all, but turning the ball over to your offense right there - or even scoring himself - is much more valuable. My god, what more can Woodson do? He plays three positions for the Packers, his interceptions come at incredibly timely moments in the game, and he's just all around awesome.
Woodson for MVP - for without him we are not going to the playoffs. Aaron Rodgers can grow his beard as long as he wants, but until Woodson is off the team he will be my favorite Packer. Yes I just said it - Charles Woodson is my favorite Packer. Start making the C-WOOD MVP signs for Lambeau - we only have two home games left, so we must make it count. RALLY THE TROOPS!
