Then in 1999, brash neophyte Daniel Snyder purchased the team, and when Nolan’s defense struggled — it finished the season ranked No. 30 in yards and No. 24 in points — Snyder went after his defensive coordinator. The first-year NFL owner considered Nolan’s defenses vanilla, twice had ice cream delivered to Nolan’s office to hammer home the point, and after the 10-6 season, fired Nolan.
I had missed this part of the article about the Mike Nolan story before linking to it in the previous post. I must say that I do not feel badly about it because this small paragraph deserves it's own story.
My god. Dan Snyder sent him icecream. I don't know whether to take offense to that or to laugh ferociously at it. Dan Snyder is obviously a great NFL franchise owner and knows what it takes to be a winner in this league, as shown by his multiple championships... OK. I can't laugh my way through this post anymore than you can giggle yourself through reading it.
Snyder is a failure of an owner almost in the Jerry Jones category. At least Jones at one time had the balls to hire Bill Parcells(a slight check on egomania). Snyder's disdain for Nolan only makes me appreciate him all the more.
Let's see.. Dan Synder doesn't like you? SIGN HIM!
